Be Prepared

Yesterday I talked about the economic and moral challenges we are facing as a nation. I hope you were challenged.

With six boys we were heavily involved in Boy Scouts. We started scouts when the first two boys were in 2nd grade and never stopped till our second to last made Eagle. So, we have three Eagles. Their motto has always been be prepared. In fact that comes right out of scripture.

With what is happening with the economy it is so easy to be discouraged and overwhelmed with the challenges ahead. In fact, it is easy to just throw our hands up or hide under a blanket. The reality is that as Christian women we have a "cloud of witnesses" for us to look up to. We are a chosen race and a royal priesthood. God has many instructions on being prepared.

Yesterday I challenged us to pray for our nation, on our knees to beg the Father to help this nation to turn back to Him. Prayer is so important. Many prayers have changed the course of history. God hears the prayers of a people who want to follow him.

One of the other things we can do is prepare. So lets look at some scripture for our guidance. His Word is a love letter to us and He wants us to read and apply what we read to help light our path. The first place I want to go is back in Proverbs 31. Here is a beautiful picture of a godly woman who impacts her husband, her children and her community. There is much we can learn from her!

The Woman Who Fears the Lord

10 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. 11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. 14 She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. 15 She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. 16 She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. 17 She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. 19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. 20 She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. 25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. 27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

Prov 31:10-31 (ESV)

This woman is beautiful first and foremost because she loves Yaweh. It is obvious in everything she does and says. She is prepared for any situation. Her pantry is full, her children and her are clothed and she runs her household with strength. This lady is focused on her family and her God. That is where we should start. We don't have to worry about the circumstances that surround is when we focus on God's work for us. We will be prepared! What about you? Do you worry, are you prepared for the future?

More practical advice tomorrow.
In Christ Alone,

Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning Satan says, "Oh crud, she's up".

God's Word so applicable for us, even more so; in light of our Nation's troubles! Love and prayers for you Jill, as you serve Him!
