Daniel the Devoted

I love the book of Daniel. We named one of our sons after this young man. He was taken from his country and sent to the ruling King of Babylonia. His job was to be trained in the literature and language of the Babylonians. Daniel and three other young men were brought to spend three years getting ready to serve the King.

Like all great Bible stories there is a challenge for Daniel and his buddies. He is brought into a pagan culture and expected to live like the Babylonians. That is a problem for Daniel. He serves Yahweh and Him alone. When he is given food that would be considered unclean to him he politely asks if he can abstain. There was a rule to follow, "When in Babylon, do as the Babylonians". Daniel is not going to compromise his very strong beliefs.

You know the rest of the story. God blesses Daniel over and over again.
Daniel is truly devoted to the LORD. I love how God blesses Daniel and his friends. I am inspired by Daniel's devotion to the Almighty. He was not afraid to stand up to the culture he finds himself in and obeys God rather than man! A lesson I am working on, what about you?

In Christ Alone,
Jill
