Day 4 God's View of Suffering

Imagine being the baby of the family and the favorite to boot! Imagine being able to walk around with the coolest clothes of the family, certainly better than your siblings. Imagine gloating over your status to your brothers who can’t stand to even see your face!

Joseph was born with a silver spoon but ends up in a cistern and sold to slave owners by his own brothers. God needed time to refine this young man and apparently the best way to start the process was to have him dumped in a pit.

I have been in that pit before and I can tell you that it will certainly get your attention. I have questioned how I have gotten in such a pickle! God was truly refining me. When you get thrown in the pit you have two choices. You can either study the foul stench coming from the pit and focus just on what you can see at eye level or… can look up and see the light streaming down from the top given you light for the climb out.

Joseph understood later why God allowed such a thing to happen. Listen in his own words what he learned.

His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Gen 50:18-21 (ESV)

Suffering, a discipline we try to avoid like the plague but a useful tool in the hands of the Potter!

Till tomorrow

In Christ Alone

"Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning Satan says, "Oh crud, she's up"
